Age Champion Connor
Hi Ivan and Leanne (Alexandra Hills)
Connor attended Shapland Swim School from when he was around 18 months of age through to when he was 7 years of age. You taught him how to swim all of the strokes and he loved it. When Connor left Shapland Swim School, we did not put him into any other form of swimming, no squad swimming or anything like that.
Last year, 2010, Connor started attending Sheldon College and there it was realised how well he swims and what a great stroke he has. Connor started swimming with the squad at Sheldon in October 2010. He as awarded Age Champion at the Year 4 Swimming Carnival prior to commencing with the squad.
This year, 2011, he again was awarded Age Champion at the Year 5 Swimming Carnival and went on to represent the school at the Redlands District Carnival. At this carnival, he competed in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly. He finished 5th in the freestyle, 4th in the butterfly and 3rd in the backstroke. He was then selected to represent Redlands at the Metropolitan East swimming carnival. At this carnival, Connor swam in all three events. He did not place in the butterfly, but again finished 5th in the freestyle and 3rd in the backstroke and was selected to represent the Metropolitan East team at the Queensland Primary Schools State Carnival.
At the State Carnival, Connor competed in the Team A Medley relay, swimming the backstroke leg and Team B Freestyle relay and was the 4th swimmer. The Medley team finished 5th but the Freestyle team did not place. Connor also swam in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke. He finished 22nd in the freestyle, which was expected. What was not expected was that he made the final in the backstroke and finished 10th. So he is the 10th fastest 10 year old boy in Queensland for 50m backstroke and he has only been squad swimming since October 2010.
I contribute a lot of his swimming achievements to the time, effort and support provided to him during his learn to swim lessons at Shapland Swim School. Both of you put so much time and patience into teaching the children the correct strokes, not just the fundamental basics, so that when they leave your little learn to swim pool and hit the big pools in the outside world, they can well and truly hold their own.
Again I just want to say thank you so much for teaching Connor how to swim and how to do it well and helping him achieve what he has achieved in swimming so far.
Kind regards,
Catherine Bradfield
